 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER

Computer science

Computer can be defined as an electronic device which can:

  • Accept data
  • Processing data
  • Give output in readable and understandable language called information
  • Store data/information

TYPES OF COMPUTER

  1. Super computer
  2. Mainframe compuer
  3. Personalcomputer
  4. Laptop computer

COMPUTER SYSTEM

Is a combination of two element which are

  1. HARDWARE
  2. SOFTWARE

HARDWARE: This refered  to all physical parts of a computer which can be seen or touched the following are the hardware example CPU,VDU,KEYBOARD,MOUSE,PRINTER,SCANNER,CABLES

TYPES OF HARDWARE

There are three types of hardware namely

  • Input device
  • Output device
  • Input/output device

INPUT DEVICES:

These sends data/information inside the computer (CPU). They are

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Scanner

OUTPUT DEVICE

These extracts data/information from the compute,  these are

  • VDU
  • Printer
  • Speaker

INPUTOUTPUT DEVICES

These send data/information from the computer, they are

  • Data cables
  • Modem
  • Fax
  • Central processing unit (CPU)

SOFTWARE: Can be defined as a program use by computer

PROGRAM; Is a detailed set of instruction written in a computer language which tells the computer how to process the input data and generate different output.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE: There are two types of software which are

SYSTEM SOFTWARE: These acts as a translator or an interface between the use and the computer, so that the user can access the hardware with case. Example of system software are: WINDOW 95/98/2000, WINDOW XP,WINDOW7,WINDOW8,WINDOW10,WINDOW11

APPLICATION SOFTWARE: These are the instruction written in computer for doing a specific task or job within a computer.Computer  does not understand plan language; or other languages rather than its own language hence one must communicate  or talk with them using this language. Example of Aplication Software : WORD PROCESSING,SPREAD SHEET,DATABASE,PACE MAKER, ETC
